About GJ-MUN

The Global Junior Model United Nations (GJ-MUN) Conference is a flagship initiative of Innovation for Empowerment and Development (IFED Global), organizers of the International Youth Diplomacy Conference (IYDC). Launched in 2022, GJ-MUN Conference was designed to engage young people aged 9 to 18 in diplomacy, leadership, and experiential learning.

Since its inception, GJ-MUN Conference has created transformative platforms for students across Africa to explore global governance, simulate real UN processes, and gain practical skills in negotiation, critical thinking, and public speaking. The conference blends Model UN simulations with cultural exchange and global citizenship education, equipping participants to understand international affairs and act as young change-makers in their communities.

Skills to be gained:

What is MUN

A MUN is a simulation of the work of the United Nations in which students from different countries gather to discuss topics of international concern. During the simulation, councils, committees and commissions of the United Nations are devoted to certain topic areas such as the Security Council or the Economic and Social Council.

Prior to the conference, students will be assigned a country or organization whose interests they have to represent. In order to do so, participants conduct research on their country’s or organization’s official stance. During the conference, various political topics will be discussed in English and according to UN procedures. At the end, a resolution – an agreed proposed solution to effectively tackle the problem – will be passed. Besides improving one’s written and oral English communication skills, a MUN conference also fosters international understanding and cultural exchange amongst participants.

The Global Junior Model United Nations Conference – United Nations Day Edition 2025 is a flagship experiential diplomacy and leadership event tailored for young people aged 9 to 18. Organized by IFED Global, this conference commemorates the founding of the United Nations by empowering children to engage with the UN system, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and intercultural collaboration.
